John Luchau sends link to news about vulcano near his home

John Luchau writes:

If you want to let folks know what’s happening here in my neck of the woods with the lava flow I’ve found that this link is the best update for views and information.  The flow front remains about 6 miles South of our home so it is a concern but it is not moving our direction at this time so in my mind it is not a major concern.

I would think that any of our Vulcanologists from SSHS would find it as fascinating as I do.

Winter 2014 Newsletter

2014 SSHS WINTER.  The new Winter Newsletter for the Class of 1963

Dan withers article.

The Spring 2015 newsletter will have pictures of the 2 mini-reunions held in September 2014.  The first was at Stangeland Winery in Salem.  We had 32 participants.  The following week, there was a mini reunion in Seattle.  Chris Holm Kline organized a gathering and a tour of the Seattle Art Museum.  We always appreciate new communications, pictures,  or articles for future newsletters.

Our classmate Kris Campbell LOCKARD has just written and published a mystery novel Green Ridge.  Cost is $15.95 plus $3 shipping.  Contact Kris LOCKARD or sshs63.com if you would like to purchase.  More information in the spring newsletter.

We also got word that classmate Max L. Huff who passed away in October.  His picture will be added to our Memorial page.

Mini Gathering at Stangeland Winery

We had 35 people attend the mini-gathering at Stangeland Winery, thanks to Gail Miller Jones and Larry Miller for hosting.  Thanks also to Ann Byerley Wineland for keeping track of the RSVP for planning.  Thanks to Frieda Flint and Ron Cross for taking pictures.  Thanks to the committee for providing appetizers and supporting this fun event.

You can view the pictures in a Power Point show.  It may take a moment to load on your computer.  Progress through the pictures by clicking your computer mouse.2014-mini-reunion

September Mini – Gathering

We have about 30 people attending the mini-reunion on September 10.  Hope you are one of them.

A few classmates asked for another get together because they enjoyed the 50th reunion.   They requested a winery and classmate Gail Miller Jones was nice enough to offer her brother’s winery for the gathering.

Letting the Dust Settle

After such a fun filled weekend, and seeing many new and old friends, I hope you are getting rested, for some of you traveled a great distance.  I reflect on the word travel, because we have all come to appreciate where we are, and how far we have come in these 50 years.  We identified ourselfs in high school by the classes we took,  the people we associated with, the goals and expectations of our parents and our peers.  Thank goodness that definition has eroded over time.

If you have not read the biographies on the web, I hope you take time to do that.  People have such interesting and diverse lives.  If you hurry and submit your own biography by September 20, your biography will be included in a published version with over 100 other classmates.  ORDER FORM BIOS CD

If you attended the Saturday night event and did not sign up for a CD of pictures taken by Megan Powell,  let me know.  Those CD’s will be printed soon and sent to you at no cost.  If you did not attend the reunion but want a CD of the pictures from Saturday night, you can order a CD for $5.  ORDER FORM BIOS CD

Tour of the School

Thank you to Rick Lacey, Weight Training Teacher at South Salem High School, for the great tour of the school.  We had 21 classmates and additional friends that toured the school this morning.  We are missing  Miles Schlesinger, Janet Auld Serman and Joyce Brothers Kart.  They were still trying to find their lockers.
